East Los Angeles Oil Spill

On May 22, 2026, a telecommunications crew struck an underground crude oil pipeline near East Cesar E. Chavez Ave. and North Eastern Ave. in Los Angeles County. Oil entered storm drains and the Los Angeles River. The pipeline has been shut down, and crews are excavating and repairing the line. Cleanup teams are on site, with containment booms deployed to limit downstream spread. Out of an abundance of caution, air quality monitoring and air purification efforts in the area will continue.
