LA County eCheck for Faster Home Approvals

Check Your Plans

LA County is partnering with Archistar to launch eCheck, a cutting-edge tool that reviews fire rebuild plans for compliance with zoning and building codes using artificial intelligence (“AI”). If your single-family home was impacted by the Eaton Fire or the Palisades Fire and meets the eligibility criteria below, you can use eCheck for free.

Eligibility Criteria

Property must be:

  • Impacted by the Eaton Fire or Palisades Fire
  • Located in unincorporated Altadena or Sunset Mesa*
  • Within a single-family residential (R-1) zone**

*Other fire-impacted communities will be eligible soon.

**Zone R-C (Palisades Fire impacted area) and Zones R-2 and R-3 (Eaton Fire impacted area) will be eligible soon.

How eCheck Works:

  1. Sign up for a free account at echeck.lacounty.gov.
  2. Look up your property address.
  3. Upload your plans in PDF format. Indicate whether the Rebuild Project is “Like-for-Like” or “Non-Like-for-Like.”
  4. AI checks plans and generates a report. You will receive the report in about one business day if your Rebuild Project is “Like-for-Like” or in about three business days if your Rebuild Project is “Non-Like-for-Like.”
  5. Review the report and revise your plans and re-upload if needed.
  6. Download the final report and include it in your County Disaster Recovery Permit – Rebuild Project application.

On September 2nd, LA County expanded eCheck to include essential building code checks in addition to zoning compliance and reviews for Like-for-Like and Non-Like-for-Like Rebuild Projects. Through the same platform, residents will now benefit from automated pre-checks against primarily life safety elements of the codes. This will aid in the effort to build back quicker and also deliver homes that meet the core requirements for safety, health and quality of life.
