L.A. COUNTY AND RED CROSS PARTNER TO HELP L.A. County And Red Cross Partner To Help Residents Transition From Pasadena Fire Shelter To New Location In Duarte
The Pasadena Civic Auditorium Complex, which currently serves as a temporary emergency congregate shelter for residents displaced by the Eaton Fire, is helping shelter residents move to a new location at the Pamela Park gymnasium, located at 2236 Goodall Ave. in Duarte.
“The American Red Cross has been an invaluable partner in ensuring that some of our most vulnerable residents receive the care and support they need in the wake of the Eaton Fire,” said Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors Chair Kathryn Barger. “I appreciate their unwavering commitment and service. I will continue to closely track the well-being of those impacted, ensuring they have access to critical resources and a pathway to stability as they transition to the new shelter location.”
When the Red Cross assumed management of the Pasadena shelter, the complex requested that the facility be returned to the city of Pasadena shortly after the first week in February. The city graciously granted an extension for the shelter until an appropriate location could be found.
“The American Red Cross extends gratitude to the city of Pasadena for stepping up to provide space for an emergency shelter in the aftermath of January’s devastating wildfires,” said Jody Kimbrel, American Red Cross Disaster Relief Operation Job Director. We also want to thank Los Angeles County for identifying a new site to welcome and shelter displaced residents of LA County.”
The focus of the County and the American Red Cross was to locate a shelter location closer to where the remaining residents reside, near their social networks and familiar neighborhood resources.
The County’s Department of Public Social Services and the American Red Cross are now working with partner agencies to assist residents with the move.
Every household in the emergency shelter has been assigned a Red Cross Shelter Resident Transition specialist that will continue to work with them every step of the way. This includes working with LA County to provide transportation and ensure that every resident has a clear plan. The County and the American Red Cross are also collaborating with local services and maintaining communication with each resident to support a smooth transition.
The Red Cross will continue to provide substantial recovery resources to help residents transition to more permanent housing solutions and ensure that they are connected to FEMA, State, and L.A. County resources as they move through their recovery journey.
